Military aircraft fly past Tian'anmen Square to salute Party's centenary

A total of 71 aircraft from the People's Liberation Army flew past Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing on Thursday morning at the beginning of a grand gathering celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. As many as 15 J-20 stealth fighter jets took part in the air parade, staging the largest-ever public display of fifth-generation combat aircraft in the world. All of the six types of aircraft involved in the event were developed and built by Aviation Industry Corp of China, the nation's leading aircraft maker. The air fleet was led by a Z-8L multirole helicopter, the latest in China's military helicopter family. Escorted by two Z-10 attack helicopters, the Z-8L carried a Party flag under its fuselage. Another four Z-8Ls followed and carried banners with slogans celebrating the historic date. The second group consisted of 29 Z-10 and Z-19 attack helicopters, forming the Arabic numeral 100 to pay tribute to the Party's 100 years.

CPC membership exceeds 95 million as its centenary nears

BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) has 95.148 million members as of June 5, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee announced on Wednesday. Membership was 3.5 percent up from the figure reported at the end of 2019, and approximately 20 times more than the figure in 1949 when the People's Republic of China (PRC) was founded, the department said in a report ahead of the CPC's centenary on July 1. In 1921 when it was founded, the CPC had more than 50 members. About 2.31 million people joined the CPC in the first half of this year, the statement added. "The continuous increase of members has shown the strong vitality of the Party and the prosperity of the Party's cause," the statement said. The number of primary-level Party organizations has increased from 195,000 when the PRC was founded to 4.86 million, an increase of about 24 times, according to the statement. It is estimated that it will take eight to nine days to complete the vaccination task. On the first day, a total of 350 UNIFIL troops were vaccinated. As of now, no serious abnormal adverse reactions occurred. The recipients have to wear masks and maintain social distancing, while medical staff adopts secondary protection for vaccination.
